The administrative staff would like to thank and commend all parents and students for making a strong effort to attend school on January 3rd and 4th. The county school buses were not running on those days due to cold temperatures and a light dusting of snow and yet the attendance at Rogersville City School was between 94-95%. This once again shows that the parents, students, and staff of this school are committed to a strong education.

Parents: The first semester ends on Wednesday, January 16th 2008. Grade cards will go home on Wednesday, January 23rd . Please review your students’ report card and confer with their teacher if you have any questions.

The TCAP writing assessment for the 5th and 8th grades will be given on Tuesday, February 5th 2008. The only day for make-ups will be Wednesday, February 6th 2008.

School will be closed on Monday, January 21, 2008 for the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday.

The 5th grade D.A.R.E. program will be in the auditorium on January 31st at 9:00 a.m.

I want to remind parents to help keep our students safe by continuing to drop off your children at the cul-de-sac or the back doors. Traffic is flowing much better and we’ve taken many students out of harms’ way.

December 2007

The winter season is upon us and at this time of the year we are asking everyone to be especially careful. In the event of snow or other inclement weather please listen to WRGS - 1370 or WJDT on your radio dial, tune in to Television stations Channel 5 (WCYB) T.V., (WBIR) Channel 10 or log on to our website at www.rcschool.net.

I want to thank all of you for helping keep our students safe by dropping your children off at the cul-de-sac or the back doors. Traffic is flowing much better and we’ve taken many students out of harms’ way.

The school received its report card in November. Once again the students, teachers, teaching assistants, parents and many others did an excellent job. The school received all A’s in the four major subject areas of reading, math, science, and social studies. The school also received A’s in reading, science, and social studies and a B in math in value added growth. Congratulations to everyone for once again making this an outstanding academic institution.

Thanks for your cooperation and may all of you have a wonderful new year!

Sincerely,

William C. Walker

November 2007

The first nine weeks have been completed and that means that one-fourth of the school year is gone! The Thanksgiving Holidays are nearly here and students will be out of school for the week of November 19th 2007.

There is a morning traffic issue that needs to be addressed with parents/guardians, etc...  I have been on morning bus duty for the past four weeks. I have been stationed on Rogers Street at the crosswalk across from Harmon Drive. This is a very dangerous location. We have traffic moving in three different directions and children crossing two crosswalks and parents dropping off children in as many as four different locations. I have seen two near misses where students were nearly hit by moving vehicles.

I feel that we can eliminate some of the hazards by having parents drop off students at the cul-de-sac or in the back of the building. Both of these locations are more secure and conducive to student drop off. Parents need to have their students ready to exit the vehicle when they arrive at their designated drop off area. Also, there is sufficient room in the back of the building where up to six cars can unload at the same time. This should keep the traffic moving freely and allow all vehicles to exit the school grounds more quickly.

The Rogers Street school entrance will only be available to those students that walk or for parents that use Harmon Drive. Please help us keep the children of Rogersville City School as safe as possible.

Thanks for you cooperation and have a Happy Thanksgiving Holiday!

Sincerely,

William C. Walker
