Saturday's TMSAA Cross Country Championship Meet was one for the books with the RCS Boys' team producing its highest state finish in school history, 5th out of 15 teams. In a field of 127 runners, RCS was led by an overall 5th place finish from 8th grader Holden Sattler whose performance also earned him All-State accolades. Also cracking the top 20 was 8th grader and fellow team captain Noah Hawk, who finished 16th. First year runner, Braydon Haun, finished 53rd while posting a 27 second PR. The rest of the team's PRs helped push the team to its overall 5th place finish.
These two team captains (Sattler and Hawk) have been with the program all 3 years and have trusted…I could not be more proud of them. They both had an amazing season!
Only two runners qualified for the state meet on the girls' side, 7th graders Elizabeth Coward and Mariam El Kammash. Coward, in her second state appearance, finished 14th while 1st year runner El Kammash made an impressive 43rd place finish.
To say Coach Kelley Russell is proud is an understatement. " I’m so grateful to have witnessed the growth of these kids throughout the year(s) as competitors, athletes, and teammates. This program has grown over the past six years becoming a program that produces athletes that want to perform at their highest level. They represented our school with class and determination."
