RCS Track & Field recently competed in the TMSAA Class A Sectional Championships where both girls' and boys' teams placed 3rd out of 13 teams. Almost every single athlete had at least one PR and some as many as three.
Two individual Sectional Champions emerged from the girls' team: 8th grader Elizabeth Coward in the 800m (and PR) and 6th grader Kenady Deal in the 400m, also with a PR.
The boys' side also had two individual Sectional Champions:
7th grader Brayden Brown came away with the win and an impressive PR in the 400m. Veteran teammate Isaac Bryan became the Sectional Champ in the long jump, also with a big PR.
Relay Sectional Champions on the girl’s side in the 4x400 were: Kenady Deal, Mariam Elkammash, Rylee Sivert & Elizabeth Coward.
Relay Sectional Champions on the boy’s side in the 4x400 were: Brayden Brown, Isaac Bryan, Zander Harris & Kaleb Turner. Each athlete in this race produced PRs on their splits in a highly contested outing finishing in a time of 4:09.38.
RCS also had several qualifying for the State Championships:
Emma Stipes finished third in disc with a PR of her own.
Rylee Sivert qualified in two individual events getting third place the 100m & 200m. She produced a PR in the 200m.
Kaleb Turner also had a big night qualifying in two individual events. He qualified third in the 400m with a PR and a strong surge at the finish. He also qualified in the third spot in the 800m.
Other notable performances on the girl’s side include the following:
Ailin DeJesus PR in the 100m hurdles, Baylee Trent PR in disc, Elin Bryan ran a gutsy race in the 1600m which produced a 6 second PR, Genny Barger big PR of fifteen feet in disc, Sophia Galvez had a huge night producing a PR in the 100m, 200m, & long jump, and Zoey Bowman got a PR in the 100m hurdles.
On the boys' side, Aaron Munsey-Cooke got a PR in both the disc and shot, Dylan Murphy PR in the 100m, Eli Gonzalez got a PR in both the 100m & 200m, Evan Laster produced a PR in the 110m hurdles, and Will Phillips produced a huge PR of sixteen seconds in the 1600m. He finished his season with a PR of over one minute ten seconds. He also garnered a PR in the 800m to cap off a season of huge growth.
The TMSAA Track & Field State Championship will be held Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN. Full details and schedule can be found here.
