In a season that saw the program's first-ever undefeated Area record and first-ever first place area finish, the Lady Warriors fell to Area 2 rival Boones Creek in the championship of Sectional Loser's bracket. Boones Creek advanced to the Section championship match before falling to defending state champs, West Greene Middle School.
Despite defeating Boones Creek twice in the regular season, the Lady Warriors lost in the area championship and faced an uphill battle in the section, entering as the #2 seed. After beating Johnson County in an 8:30 a.m. match-up (2-0; 25-19, 25-7), the Lady Warriors lost to West Greene in the 3rd set (2-1; 25-13, 10-25, 15-10). The team rallied to defeat South Greene 2-1 (25-23, 20-25, 15-12) before ultimately losing a close match to Boones Creek 2-0 (25-22, 25-22).
The Lady Warriors close out their season 21-5 and will lose five 8th graders (Madelynn Banks, Addison Burns, Harlen Hayes, Rylee Sivert, and Molli Stuffle). They'll return three starters to next year's varsity team (7th graders Laney Bradley, Kyrah Pope, and Addie Rutledge) as well as two returning 6th grade varsity players (Claira Allen and Reese Floyd).
Coach Serenity Ewing expressed her pride about this talented group of young ladies.
This wasn't the end we result we wanted, but I'm very proud of how hard these girls worked. We had an amazing season overall, and I will certainly miss the 8th graders who are leaving. Their leadership has laid a strong foundation for next year's team, and I'm excited to see what's next for our program.
