COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented school communities with previously unimaginable challenges. At the conclusion of 2019-2020 school year, our school staff set about planning how to safely and effectively navigate these challenges. Building on lessons learned from our sudden shift to virtual instruction last Spring, parent feedback, and guidance from state and local officials, RCS developed both its School Reopening Plan and Continuous Learning Plan (CLP). Our Guiding Principles influenced the development of these plans and continue to affect our decisions in response to not only the threat of COVID in our area, but also in pursuing our goal to effectively educate our students.

When: Monday-Friday 8:15- 9:15

Where: RCS

Cost: FREE through the ELC COVID testing grant!

Please call the school to schedule an appointment time at 423-272-7651.

Rapid testing with results in 10 minutes

Current Status

School will start normally with our Return to School Guidelines in place.

Guiding Principles

Five principles should guide all planning, decision-making, and execution of the work of returning to school in Rogersville:

We will share what we know and what we don’t know. We will be clear about what we can control and what is outside of our control.
We will be equitable. We will center decisions on what is best for all students, families, and educators, especially those most impacted by educational inequities and COVID-19.
We will listen. We will bring together diverse stakeholders and experts to a) understand the realities on the ground and b) surface creative solutions.
We will put safety first. We will leverage science, data, and public health leadership to inform the choices we make.
We will be decisive. Given the size and scope of the challenge, we must move deliberately and make tough choices. We will make mistakes, and we will adapt quickly as variables on the ground change.

These are just a few of the health and safety measures we're implementing in response to COVID-19.

Social Distancing
- Separate entrances for drop-offs to provide direct routes to classrooms and reduce student interaction en route to class
- Social distancing markers throughout building to assist students and staff in gauging distance and to give visual reminders
- Classroom furniture arranged to support social distancing
- Reduce student density
  - Allowing students to go directly to class rather than the New Gym holding area
  - All breakfast service is served "to-go".
  - Reduced student transitions during the day
Cleaning
- Hiring of an additional custodian to provide increased cleaning and disinfection
- Sanitation stations in every hallway
Reducing Likelihood of Spread
- Student and staff mask-wearing is now strongly encouraged. (Exceptions include eating/drinking, communication with those who are hearing-impaired, and specified mask breaks).
