RCS Baseball and Softball Dominate in Season Openers

RCS Baseball and Softball dominate in season openers against Surgoinsville Middle. Baseball won with a 26-1 score while softball finished with an 11-1 victory. Both teams play Sulphur Springs at Boones Creek this evening. Softball plays at 5:00 p.m. Game time for baseball is 7:00 p.m.

Baseball

Cade Putnal drove in four runs on two hits to lead RCS Warriors past Surgoinsville 26-1 on Monday. Putnal hit an inside the park grand slam in the third inning, scoring four runs, and walked in the third inning, scoring one.

RCS Warriors won thanks in part to 17 runs in the third inning in which Putnal hit an inside the park grand slam.

RCS Warriors got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after McAnally singled, scoring two runs, Ball drew a walk, scoring one run, and Bradley Cooper grounded out, scoring one run.

RCS Warriors scored five runs on zero hits in the bottom of the second inning. Mac Phillips drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, Cooper drew a walk, scoring one run, and Lyons drew a walk, scoring one run.

Buchanan stepped on the mound first for RCS Warriors. The starter surrendered five hits and one run over three and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking none. Hilton began the game for Surgoinsville. The starting pitcher gave up one hit and seven runs over one inning, striking out one and walking six. Goode appeared in relief for RCS Warriors.

RCS Warriors had patience at the plate, tallying 22 walks for the game. Lyons and Ball led the team with four free passes each. RCS Warriors were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Putnal had the most chances in the field with nine.

Mayes led Surgoinsville with one run batted in. The infielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Williams went 2-for-2 at the plate to lead Surgoinsville in hits.

RCS Warriors will travel to Sulphur Springs for their next game on Tuesday.

Softball:

Bailey Bledsoe struck out 13 batters as the starting pitcher led Rogersville City Warriors past Surgoinsville 11-1 on Monday. Bledsoe allowed one hit and one run over six innings while walking five.

Rogersville City Warriors got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Bledsoe grounded out, Laney Bradley walked, and the Lady Warriors scored on a wild pitch, each scoring one run.

A triple by Kyra Pope, and a single by Carter Thurman helped Rogersville City Warriors extend their early lead in the second.

Cherith Greene took the loss for Surgoinsville. The pitcher went five innings, surrendering 11 runs (seven earned) on three hits, striking out 12 and walking 11.

Pope and Thurman were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for Rogersville City Warriors. Pope, Rylee Sivert, and Thurman each collected one hit for Rogersville City Warriors. Rogersville City Warriors had a strong eye at the plate, piling up 11 walks for the game. Thurman and Bradley led the team with three free passes each. Sivert stole two bases. Rogersville City Warriors didn't commit a single error in the field. Anna Mae Boyd had the most chances in the field with 13.

Jayleigh Steffey led Surgoinsville with one run batted in. The left fielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Surgoinsville had patience at the plate, accumulating five walks for the game. Haven Barnett and Emma Williams led the team with two free passes each.

Rogersville City Warriors will travel to Sulphur Springs for their next game on Tuesday.
