After a 3-week unit learning the rules and skills for pickleball, PE teachers Matthew Davenport and Latosha Jackson gave RCS 7th and 8th grade physical education students an opportunity to put their learning to the test in the 7th and 8th grade pickleball tournament. 24 teams competed in 3 brackets.
After some intense competition, 8th grader Cade Putnal and 7th grader Jackson Davenport went undefeated and won Bracket A. 8th grader Baylor Hancock and 7th grader Andrew England took 2nd place, with 8th grader Zavion Goode filling in when Andrew was out.
7th grader Layton Ball and 8th grader Braxton Buchanan came out of the losers' bracket to win Bracket B. (7th grader Andrew Valladares subbed for Braxton while he was out). Bracket B's runner-up went to 8th graders Matt Kirkpatrick and Boone Matthews.
An undefeated run propelled 7th graders Moreaya Galvez and Laney Bradley to take the championship in Bracket C while 7th graders Karlie Gray and Carter Thurman took second place.
Following the regular tourney, a Champions Bracket was formed from the top 2 teams in each bracket. Jackson Davenport and Cade Putnal defeated Karlie Gray and Carter Thurman to emerge as the overall Champions Winner. Special thanks to Boone Matthews and Rylee Sivert for filling in for Cade and Carter during their absences. Jackson and Cade remained undefeated through both tournaments.
