RCS students participated in the Tennessee Student Mock Election on October 24 at Rogersville City School. In a process designed to teach students about how elected officials are selected, students had the opportunity to vote on both the Office of the President as well as U.S. Senate. 8th grade students served as volunteer poll workers for the election.
7th and 8th grade history teacher Carla Sells organized the event for the school.
"I think students should be aware of the process of voting, how democracy works in America, and how the whole system allows us to each have a voice in the government."
At the conclusion of student voting, Donald Trump received 311 votes (88.9%), and Kamala Harris received 39 votes (11.1%). In the Senate race, Marsha Blackburn received 259 votes (74%), and Gloria Johnson received 91 votes (26%). RCS's votes were submitted and will be included in the soon to be released statewide mock student election votes.
