Knowing what's going on in the entire school is a necessity for the school's secretary. Knowing who rides which bus, who called home for a forgotten lunch, or which teachers have subs for the day are just a few of the seemingly millions of details he/she has to retain to help keep things running smoothly.
Because of this, keeping a schoolwide celebration for RCS Office Manager Vickie Knox's 50th work anniversary a secret was quite an accomplishment! To celebrate this special milestone, RCS declared October 18, 2024 to be in her honor. All students and staff were treated to celebratory cake, and Mrs. Vickie was recognized in a special school gathering to commemorate the event.
Under the guise of simply recognizing the State Champion Girls Cross Country team, Mrs. Vickie was greeted in the new gym by the entire student body. Close friend and former colleague Hannah Gillenwater shared about Mrs. Vickie, the cheerleaders wrote and performed a cheer for her, RCS teachers Matthew Hurd, Stephanie Eidson, Andy Hipshire, Beth Jarnigan, and Forrest Gladson sang two songs in her honor, and students showered her with thank you cards. Her son, Tony, and granddaughter Lynsey were also in attendance and Director of School Mr. Edwin Jarnagin gave special remarks to close out the program emceed by Gary Hicks.
Mrs. Knox began her career at RCS as a teacher assistant in October of 1975. After being promoted to Office Manager in July, 1989, Mrs. Vickie has held that position for 35 years! In that time, countless students, parents, and staff have been touched by her heart for service. She's far too humble to accept these lofty praises, but we all know Mrs. Vickie is the glue holding everything together.
She frequently closes her emails with "thank you for all you do", but RCS wants to thank Mrs. Vickie for all she does! Congratulations, Mrs. Vickie! We love you!
